
Let’s Talk About the 900W Carbon Fiber IR Lamp
We built this 900W lamp for those moments when you just can’t wait around for things to heat up. If you need a thermal response that’s practically instant and a wavelength that actually gets deep into your materials, this is your tool. Instead of the usual quartz heaters, we used a carbon fiber filament tucked inside a quartz envelope. It changes how the heat hits, making it way more effective at penetrating the surface. The heat is intense. At 900W, you’re getting a serious punch of concentrated energy. It’s perfect for when you need to hit a target temperature fast without turning your entire machine chassis into an oven. But here is a pro tip: keep your reflectors spotless. If they get oxidized or dirty, your heat output drops, and the lamp has to work overtime to compensate. That’s a quick way to shorten its life. Why bother with carbon fiber? Tungsten is fine, but it tends to sag or warp when things get really hot. Carbon fiber doesn’t do that. It stays put. This means your focal point stays exactly where you set it for the entire life of the lamp. To keep the filament from burning out, we wrap it in high-purity quartz to keep the oxygen out. Getting it running Most industrial controllers will handle these just fine. But keep in mind, carbon fiber has a different resistance curve than metal. If you’re swapping this into an old rig, double-check your power supply. 900W is a heavy draw. If your wiring is too thin or a connection is loose, you’ll get voltage drops, and you’ll lose that efficiency we worked so hard to build in. These are great drop-in replacements for short-wave systems and they ramp up much faster. Just be careful when you’re installing them. They’re a bit finicky. One slip of a wrench or a single fingerprint on the glass can create a hot spot, and that’s how you get a crack. Seriously—wear gloves.
