Getting the Most Out of the 500mm 700W Carbon IR Lamp
We built these carbon infrared lamps for those tricky jobs where your standard quartz heaters just aren’t cutting it. This 500mm unit pumps out 700W, but the real magic is in the balance. It spreads the heat evenly, so you don’t end up with those annoying hotspots ruining your workpiece. Why carbon? Here’s the thing: most heaters use metal coils. We went with carbon fiber. It’s just more efficient. It turns electricity into infrared heat way faster, which means you aren’t standing around waiting for the machine to warm up. You hit your target temperature quickly. To keep things clean and prevent the filament from wearing out, we wrap the whole thing in a high-purity quartz tube. Size and Power At 500mm, this fits right into most medium-sized industrial ovens or curing lines without any fuss. Since the 700W output is linear, it’s a breeze to wire these up in a bank. If you’re running a wide conveyor, you can actually keep the temperature consistent from one side to the other. One quick warning, though.**Stick to the spec sheet.**If you try to force more voltage through the tube just to get a bit more heat, you’ll fry the carbon filament. It’s not worth the risk. Installing it (and a few things to watch for) These are designed to be easy drop-in replacements for your existing IR arrays. But remember, quartz glass is fragile. It doesn’t like to be stressed. I highly recommend using spring-loaded mounts. Lamps expand when they get hot and shrink when they cool down; the springs give the glass room to breathe so it doesn’t snap. Also, keep in mind that carbon lamps “feel” different than halogen ones. They emit a different kind of heat. If your material only reacts to short-wave IR, a carbon lamp might not soak in as deep. You’ve got to make sure the lamp’s wavelength matches what your material actually absorbs, otherwise, you’re just paying for electricity you aren’t using. And for heaven’s sake, make sure your ventilation is dialed in. That quartz tube gets hot—hot enough to start a fire if there’s dust or debris hanging around it.
